For wedding couples, a portrait session can be both an exciting and nerve-wracking experience. Here are some tips to help couples feel comfortable, look their best, and make the most of their wedding portrait session:
Focus on each other rather than the camera. To get a natural reaction look into each other’s eyes for 10 seconds and try not to laugh, hold hands, kiss, cuddle, touch your love’s face, or share your favourite joke or some funny memory that you’ve experienced together. Don’t be afraid to move around. Authentic expressions and natural interactions make for the best photos.
The majority of my couples told me that they feel awkward in front of the camera, therefore I like to start the portrait session with some action shots such as walking, dancing or running. This can put couples in a natural state of being and it can result in beautiful and dynamic shots.
Every couple has a unique story behind them, and I love to capture your unique personalities, so do whichever you feel would be the best expression of your love story. It can be a specific pose, facial expression or some meaningful props. Don’t feel like you need to pose in a certain way because it will look good in photos, just be yourselves.
Book an engagement session prior to a big day. An engagement session is a perfect chance for you to meet your photographer and build rapport. This will help you to feel more comfortable on the wedding day. An engagement session allows you to get used to being in front of the camera and practice with some poses as well as preserve precious memories and add another chapter to your love story. You can have your engagement session at the place that is meaningful to you such as where you first met or where you like to spend time together.
